Weekly Top for 3-10-23

 Folks,

Hang in there! -

Counting today we have 5 days until Spring Break!  After Spring Break things will fly by with all the end of the year activities, testing, concerts, etc!

Congratulations!!!! -

What a past week at UMS!  The following occurred within the past week:

  • Science Olympiad Regional Champions 15 straight years
  • 7th & 8th grade orchestra division 1 ratings
  • 8th grade band division 1 ratings
  • 7th grade band division 2 ratings

Monday Meeting with the RESA -

Monday at 3:00 PM will be our last meeting this school year with Abbie and Tiago on restorative practices.  I talked with a teacher recently about how they were using the affective statements and how they worked for them.  😁 I also had another staff member reflect on the social discipline window and  how they felt they did too much "doing to" and want to start "doing with" as part of their practice.  Good stuff!!!!

Thanks for taking the quick survey! -

I want to always be approachable, a person that is willing to listen, and learn from others.  I want to thank you for your responses to the survey I gave on my morning quotes/congratulations/etc.  I had received many compliments about it, but when I was approached that it may not be something all appreciated I decided to get your feedback.  I will share the results at next Monday's meeting.  At press time 35 people have responded.

Board of Education Meeting -

For those of you interested we have a board of education meeting this Monday at 6:00 PM located at EP Clarke Elementary School.

String Spectacular -

Next Tuesday, March 14th beginning at 7:00 PM is the 6th-12th grade Orchestra Spring Spectacular!  This will take place at the John & Dede Howard Auditorium at SJHS.  It is always wonderful to see all of the groups together!

Weekly Top for 3-3-23

 Folks,

Please help out today! -

We have a lot of staff out today!  (11 Teachers, 1 secretarial, 1 para, etc.)  We need all hands on deck today!  Please help out a colleague by checking in next door if a sub is in a room next to your room.

Congratulations Beth and our choirs -

It is so exciting that all three choirs received division 1 ratings!  I was equally impressed with hearing from staff at The Chapel that the behavior of our choirs was some of the best they saw all day!  Congratulations on all your hard work and effort!

Good Luck Today Science "O" -

Good luck to Kelly K. and Dr. St. Amand and the entire Science Olympiad team as they compete in the Science Olympiad regionals today!  The dynasty (I believe) has gone on for 14 straight years!  I am putting no pressure on the team, but I can't see why we can't make it 15 straight years!

Spelling Bee Tuesday -

This past Tuesday we had an all SJPS final as a Brown, EP Clarke, and Upton student all made the final round.  Swarnali Basu did a phenomenal job, but lost to a Brown School 5th grader (who will join our team next year) and took 2nd place.  Coach Cathy Gressley put in a ton of time with the team and we appreciate her encouragement and support!

School Improvement Meeting -

This Monday, March 6th Kristen Bawks, Kara Nicholson, and Melissa Foster will present some technology items with the staff.  We will also have a UPTO update, and I will also be sharing a few more items related to BEAR time, scheduling, and testing.

Sign the Sheet -

Please come down to the office and sign the signature sheet near Grace's desk if you have not this week.  Thanks!

Interact Club Donation -

We want to commend our Interact Club on their check presentation to the Child Advocacy Center this week!   They raised $228.50 from a bake sale.  Thanks to our kids for this generous gift to a worthy recipient!
